SYLHET: At least one person was killed and eight were injured as seven vehicles fell into a ditch after breaking a local bridge on Sylhet-Companyganj road in district’s Borni area on Friday night.
The deceased was identified as Abdul Haque, 40, hailed from Ghoramara area under Companyganj upazila.
Companyganj thana SI Alauddin said, “Five trucks, one microbus and one CNG-run auto rickshaw fell into a ditch as a local bridge collapsed due to overload at about 9:00pm.”
“Locals recovered one body and rescued eight passengers of the microbus,” he added.
Companyganj thana OC Aminul Islam told banglaews, “On information, a unit of fire fighters rushed in. They are conducting the rescue operation till filing the report at about 11:30pm.”
“Fire fighters have noticed a number of bodies inside the vehicles. The death toll may rise,” he added.
