RANGPUR: The dawn-to-dusk hartal, called by Rangpur City Corporation Andolon Parishad demanding declaration the district as City Corporation, was observed in the district Sunday.
It was seen on spot visit that the markets, tea stalls, shops and restaurants remained closed during the hartal hours.
No vehicles, including rickshaws and vans, were found to ply in internal and highway routes.
The pickets remained active from the morning to make the hartal a success. Jatiya Party leaders and activists brought out a pro-hartal procession in the morning.
A good number of police personnel were deployed in different points to avert the untoward situation during the hartal hours.
Earlier, Convener of Rangpur City Corporation Andolon Parishad Mashiur Rahman Ranga told banglanews that they called the hartal as Rangpur City Corporation has not been implemented yet as per the Prime Minister’s pledge.
