BHOLA: The government has imposed a 15-day ban on catching Hilsa fish from September 25 to October 5 in the Meghna and Tentulia Rivers in a bid to stop jatka fishing.

District Fisheries Department urged the fishermen to refrain from netting fish along 190-kilometre area of the two rivers to facilitate safe breeding of hilsa.

Sources said stern legal action would be taken if anybody violates the prohibition.

District Fisheries Officer Protish Kumar Mollik told banglanews: “The government imposed the ban as it is the high time for breeding of the silver fish.”
