COMILLA: A 19-killomiter-long traffic gridlock from Guripur to Iliotganj under Doudkandhi Upazila on the Dhaka-Chittagong Highway pushed thousands of passengers into serious sufferings on Friday.
The traffic jam was created on the important route at about 8:30am as the wheel of a covered van was damaged. Till the filing of the report at 11:46 am, the situation slightly improved as police removed the van.
Iliotganj highway surgeon Gias Al Mehedi Hasan confirmed it to banglanews.
The traffic jam deteriorated due to the unhealthy competition and overtaking tendency of vehicle drivers, said sources concerned.
The vehicles were plying very slowly from Kalakachua Cantonment to Paduar Bazzar Biswaroad in Burichang Upazila and Miar Bzaar area under Chouddagram.
Due to Eid rush on the highway, a huge number of vehicles bound for Chittagong from Dhaka created the tailbacks from cantonment to Iliotganj, causing serious woes to the passengers.”
