FARIDPUR: Asmani, the well known literary character portrayed by `Palli Kabi` Jasimuddin in his poem titled after the protagonist, died of old age complications at her house in the district early Saturday.

She was 99. Asmani has two sons and six daughters.

Family source said she passed away at about 3am at her Rasulpur village house under Eshan Gopalpur union of the district Sadar.

Earlier on June 26, she was admitted to Faridpur General Hospital due to brain hemorrhage and high blood pressure.

Later, she was shifted to Faridpur Medical College Hospital (FMCH) as her condition deteriorated.

The poem “Asmani”, symbolising the thousands of poverty stricken little girls with crushed dreams and broken spirits, was published in Jasimuddin`s, “Ek Poishar Banshi” in 1949.
