DHAKA: The International Ozone Day was observed in the country as elsewhere in the world Sunday with the slogan of ‘protecting our atmosphere for generations to come’.
Different organizations chalked out elaborate programmes to mark the day.
In separate messages, President M Zillur Rahman and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina urged all to create awareness for protecting ozone level and making commitment to the new generation to save the environment.
Bangladesh has been observing the day since 1995 along with other member countries of the United Nations.
Scientists first marked the decline in the stratospheric ozone over Antarctica in 1986.
The ozone layer protects the planet from ultraviolet radiation, which at high levels poses various dangers to earth.
