SYLHET: More than 200 hostel rooms of the long-established MC College were burnt down following a clash between Chhatra League and Chhatra Shibir.
The British-era houses were torched for four hours which left books, laptops, desktops, certificates, furniture, etc of the students into ashes, victims said.
Student sources said, around 300 students used to reside in the rooms.
On information, fire fighters bring the blaze under control around 12:00 at night.
Eyewitnesses said BCL and Shibir locked into clash over establishing supremacy in the evening, leaving six men injured from both sides.
At one stage, BCL activists set fire inside the hostel in front of police.
Sylhet Metropolitan police commissioner Amulya Bhushan Borua told banglanews24.com, seeing fire at the hostel rooms police informed the Fire Service over phone but they reached the spot around after one hour.
