DHAKA: Monday is the fifth jail release day of the Ruling Awami League (AL) chief and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
After imposing state of emergency on the country on 11 January 2007, the then caretaker government detained Sheikh Hasina on 16 July 2007 and sent to the sub-jail on charges of corruption.
This day four years back in 2008, the AL chief was freed from a specially made sub-jail on Jatiya Sangshad Bhaban premises after a year in solitary confinement and she went to the US for emergency medical checkup.
She returned home on November 6 the same year, after a lot of hassles over her homecoming.
In last years, the Ruling Awami League (AL) observed the day through different programmes, but they did not chalk out any program this year to mark the day, sources of the party said.
