NARSINGDI: The newly elected Narsindi municipal mayor Kamruzzaman Quamrul, younger brother of late mayor Lokman, said his first job would be to ensure security of the city corporation’s dwellers.
The municipal mayor made the assertion while talking to banglanews at an exclusive interview after a landslide victory in the mayoral race in the Narsindi municipality by-polls held on January 19.
Besides, he also expressed his development plan centering the municipality. The interview is given below:
You bagged one-third votes in the polls. What is your opinion about the huge popularity?
Quamrul: I got huge votes for love of inhabitants of the municipality to slain mayor Lokman Hossain and his family.
How do you feel as mayor of the municipal by defeating by huge votes?
Quamrul: I feel very bad because I lost my brother, which is out of compensation.
What will you give back to the municipality inhabitant in response of their love?
Quamrul: I will try my best to follow the ideology and development model of my brother to serve the people. As like my brother, I dedicated my life to do welfare of the municipality, if necessary.
What is your plan as mayor of the municipalilty?
Quamrul: First of all, I will ensure the security of the people of the municipal area and minority.
Regarding sheltering criminals and drug peddlers, Quamrul said criminals, extortionists and drug peddlers will be swept out from the area, Insha’Allah.
What would you take steps to minimize conflict created in local Awami League over killing of Lokman and filing case against district AL leaders?
Quamrul: I will try to do my best to develop the municipality in consultation with all by keeping behind any partisan conflict but the persons involved in killing of Lokman.
Would all areas of the town get same opportunity in development?
Quamrul: As a mayor, each inhabitant is equal to me whether he or she supported me or not in the polls. Development project will be taken in all areas equally, if necessary.
As Prime Minister’s candidate, would you get any special facilities?
Quamrul: I urged to the premier to provide me assistance for the development of Narsingdi municipality as well as entire district.
