DHAKA: Primary and Mass Education Minister Dr Afsarul Amin categorically said there are some 3.68 crore illiterate people in the country.
“We all have to build up an illiteracy free country by educating them and making them manpower,” he said.
The minister came up with the disclosure while addressing a programme at Chittagong Circuit House Saturday.
He said, “Some people of our society could not be able to continue their studies due to environmental, financial and societal reasons.”
The incumbent government has taken various steps for pragmatic education to make this huge number of people as man power and informal education is one of those, he said.
With Deputy Commissioner Foyez Ahmed in the chair, the programme was also addressed, among others, by joint secretary of the ministry AFM Faruk Hossain and PS to minister Rupom Kanti Sheel.
