THAKURGAON: The hartal called by district BNP unit in protest against arrest of acting secretary general of the party Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir is underway in the district from Monday evening.
The hartal will continue till Tuesday evening and district BNP will announce fresh programme after the hartal, said a party source.
The party sources also threatened that they would call non-stop hartal if Fakhrul is not released.
Earlier in the evening, a team of Detective Branch of Police arrested Mirza Fakhrul from party’s central office in city’s Nayapaltan area.
Earlier in the day, a case was filed against 200 to 250 people, including Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, for their alleged involvement in the Sunday’s violence centering the 18-party alliance’s countrywide road blockade.
