Section 144 imposed in Patuakhali

PATUAKHALI: The local administration Wednesday imposed section 144 in Kolapara municipal town area of the district to avert an imminent clash between BNP and Chhatra League as they convened programmes in nearby places on the same day.

Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Jahangir Hossain imposed section 144 in the area to be enforced from 8:00am until further notice.

Officer-in-Charge of Kolapara Thana Mizanur Rahman confirmed the matter to banglanews.

Upazila BNP President and Central BNP leader ABM Mosharraf Hossain told banglanews, “We had taken verbal and written permission from the administration to hold the Iftar party in front the party office longtime ago, but it imposed section 144 in the area.”

Upazila Chhatra League President MD Shujon Molla told banglanews, “On the basis of party decision Chhatra League had organized the Iftar party but we don’t know that any other political party were supposed to hold programme on the same day.”

He said the administration has done what is best for the public.
