DINAJPUR: The dawn-to-dusk hartal , called by the National Committee to Protect Oil, Gas, Mineral Resources, Power and Ports, is underway for the second day on Sunday at Phulbari upazila in the district.
The markets and shops remained closed during the hartal hours, a spot account said.
Meanwhile, no vehicle apart from rickshaw is plying in the streets.
Besides, all communications through the highway with the district were suspended because of the hartal.
A good number of police personnel have been deployed in different points.
Officer-in-Charge of Phulbari Thana Farhad Imrul Kayes told banglanews: “Police personnel have been deployed to avert any untoward situation.”
Earlier on Saturday, Member Secretary of the organization Professor Anu Mohammad made the announcement after peacefully observing Saturday’s dawn-to-dusk hartal.
While making the announcement, Anu Muhammad said, “Hartal has been called in protest against imposing section 144 to stop committees’ programme and we will announce tougher protest programme nationwide if necessary.”
Meanwhile, Mayor of Phulbari municipality Murtaza Sarker Manik said the hartal would continue till “our demands are met”. “We will convene more protest programme if necessary,” he said.
