DHAKA: Regarding resignation from the Member of Parliament, Awami League (AL) lawmaker and former State Minister for Home Tanjim Ahmad Sohel Taj said there was no other way to protect his dignity but resigning as MP.
Sohel Taj resigned as Member of the Parliament on Monday at around 10:30am by submitting his resignation letter to the Speaker of the House.
He sent a letter from USA through e-mail for the people of his constituency, Kapasia of Gazipur, explaining his points of view over the resignation and apologizing to his people of the area.
Unwilling to show any conspicuous reason behind the resignation in the letter, Sohel Taj, son of country’s first Prime Minister Tajuddin Ahmed, said there is no possibility for him to come back to become active politics again.
However, he termed Awami League as his ultimate address as his father’s blood is linked with the party.
In the letter, he said, “I had to think a lot before I decided to resign from the post of Member of Parliament. I was bound to do it to protect the dignity and honour of the people of Kapasia, in which my dignity is also directly linked.”
“Though there is no possibility to come back to active politics again, Awami League, formed based on the ideology of the Father of the Nation Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and my father Tajuddin Ahmed, is my ultimate address,” Taj narrated.
Terming his expatriate life in USA happy and well adorned, he said he sacrificed that life just to work for the country.
“I joined active politics being encouraged by the people of Kapasia and by the ideology of Bangabandhu and his father to serve the country better on a political platform, not to be enticed with power, money or fame,” he said.
Claiming that if he was greedy, he would stay grabbing the post of minister and MP, he expressed his prayer to Allah to be free from any greed and lust for the remaining time of his life.
He said he took the responsibility of home ministry to make the country miscreants and terrorists free and build a well decorated social system in Bangladesh.
Mentioning law enforcers to have a significant rule to ensure good governance, he said he tried his level best to make the police department as professional and well ordered law enforcing team.
Regarding resignation, Sohel Taj said the reason behind his resignation as MP is unexplainable but logical.
Addressing the people of Kapasia, he said, “I could not let malign of my people’s dignity. I will stay with you people always may be in the other way.”
At last, he urged the people of Kapasia to choose an honest leader for them.
