BAGERHAT: At least 15 people, including two police men, were injured in a clash between two groups of villagers over setting up stage for National Mourning Day in Mozammel Hossain Municipal Park under Morrelganj upazila of the district Tuesday.
Locals and witnesses said the supporters of upazila Awami League General Secretary Emdadul Haque constructed a stage in Mozammel Hossain Municipal Park for the National Mourning Day on Monday night.
Later, supporters of upazila municipal mayor Monirul Haque Talukdar attacked Emdadul’s supporters to take over the stage on Tuesday morning that left 15 people, including police men who tried to bring the situation under control, injured.
The injured were admitted to different clinics, including Morrelganj Upazila Health Complex.
Morrelganj Upazila Awami League President and Mayor’s side leader Amirul Alam Milan told banglanews: “We have taken permission regarding the matter on August 8 and with the help of police the opposition tried to create a stage in our place triggering a clash that left 15 people injured.”
Confirming the matter to banglanews, officer-in-Charge of Morrelganj Thana Aslam Uddin said, “Additional police personnel were deployed in the area.”
Besides, UNO M Jahar Ali told banglanews that currently the situation is under control.
