DHAKA: Opposition BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir alleged that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on her interview to BBC gave the proposal of forming interim government in order to perplex the people.
“Sheikh Hasina and her ministers are good at perplexing people and proposal of interim government is one of those,” he added.
He came up with the allegation in a discussion arranged by National Democratic Party (NDP) held a Hotel in the city Friday.
Ruling out the proposal, Mirza Fakhrul said, “Whatever the name, the next election must be held under non-party and neutral government and BNP is ready to talk about the government format.”
He also expressed deep concern and protest as the government had endorsed the draft Grameen Bank Ordinance-2012 (Amendment) with the provision of giving more authority to chairman in appointing managing director (MD).
Mirza Fakhrul said, “The government planned to destroy Grammen Bank and took the initiative as per personal spleen against Dr Yunus.”
In an exclusive interview with BBC’s HARDtalk during her five-day London visit to attend the inaugural ceremony of London Olympics 2012, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said that an interim cabinet can be formed with a view to holding next national polls in participation of all political parties.
Sheikh Hasina also opined that BNP can participate in that cabinet.
She advised opposition BNP to raise proposal in the parliament to participate in the interim cabinet.
