DHAKA: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, also ruling Awami League president, urged the authorities concerned to take preparation for facing flood.
The premier came up with the plea in a cabinet meeting held in the secretariat in the city Tuesday.
Sheikh Hasina said, “It is necessary flood for the country but we have to be ready to face unusual flood.”
The National River Protection Commission Act 2012 has been designed to improve the river management, protect the rivers from illegal encroachment and evict illegal structure on the river banks for ecological development.
Under the law, the cabinet secretary said, a commission with six- members and a permanent manpower structure will work to give recommendation to the government on river issues.
The commission will be comprised of experts from various disciplines, she said.
The commission will also work for creating pubic awareness on conservation of rivers.
