DHAKA: A delegation of University Grants Commission (UGC) led by its Chairman Professor AK Azad Chowdhury called on Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at her secretariat office here Thursday.
After the meeting, PM’s Press Secretary Abul Kalam Azad told journalist that the delegation informed the premier about the activities of the commission as well as some problems.
The delegation also proposed formation of a higher education commission to look into the aspects of higher education in the country.
The PM gave a patient hearing to the delegation and said steps would be taken to resolve those after discussion with the authorities concerned.
She said the government has a plan for decentralization of education system where local government bodies would be authorized to supervise institutions at local level while only national level educational institutions would be administered by the central government.
