COMILLA: Proctor and three Assistant Proctors of Comilla University resigned from their administrative posts on Wednesday out of frustration as they failed to take necessary measures against some irregularities that took place in the proctorial body of the institution.
CU Proctor Professor Ahsanullah and Assistant Proctors--Professor Rashidul Islam Sheikh, Professor
Mohammad Inul Haque and Professor Mphammad Tofail--submitted their resignation letters to the university registrar at 3:00pm, university sources confirmed.
However, the Proctor told banglanews that he resigned from his duty due to personal reasons.
Sources said the proctors, who resigned, could not take measures against responsible persons in several incidents that include entrance of the Bangladesh Chhatra League activists into the CU administrative building with arms and snatching of cell phone and purse of the admission seekers one day before the admission test of this year.
They resigned from their posts in protest the irregularities, sources added.
Contacted, Professor Amanullah, also the President of the CU Teachers’ Association, told banglanews: “I have resigned on personal ground.”
“It is not possible for me to carry out the duties of the proctor and the presidency simultaneously. So, I have quitted,” he said.
He also said he did not resign earlier as the university vice-chancellor (VC) asked him not to quit.
“I have resigned from the post to perform the duty of the teachers’ association effectively. This is the sole reason behind the resignation,” he claimed.
Asked whether the bar to the way of taking measures against the irregularities taking place in the university is the reason of this resignation, Amanullah replied: “The proctorial body needs support to carry out duties which is not available here in the university.”
“We took initiatives to take steps against different irregularities and informed the VC but it is not possible to do all the jobs at all the times,” he said adding, but this is not the reason of the resignation.
When contacted, CU VC Prof Ameer Hossain Khan told bandlanews: “I am not informed of the incident of their resignation. Ask him who informed you about the matter.”
