PABNA: At least 10 people, including three cops were injured in a clash between police and Jamaat-Shibir men in Jafarabadh area on Pabna-Nagarbari highway Wednesday evening.
Injured Sadar Thana Inspector (investigation) Nur Alam, SI Mahfuzur Rahman and ASI Tariqul Islam were shifted to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital from Pabna Medical College Hospital as their condition worsened.
Local and police sources told banglanews police locked into a clash with Jamaat-Shibir men when they tried to remove the blockade in Jafarabadh area on Pabna-Nagarbari highway, leaving 10 people injured on the spot.
Sources said additional riot police and Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) personnel rushed in and brought the situation under control.
Earlier in the day, picketers beat up district Awami League vice president Chandan Kumar Chakrabory and torched his motorcycle during the half-day hartal around 10am.
Later, Jamaat-Shibir men locked horns in chase and counter-chase with Awami League men when they vandalized and torched Shibir office in Bangabaria area under sadar upazila.
Besides, five to seven shops were vandalized in Pushpapara Bazar area.
Sadar Thana OC Jashim Uddin Sarkar told banglanews, “No case was filed in the connection and no one was detailed regarding the matter.”
