Sensing Politics in Sensible Way

BNP’s mass rally marked a very positive gesture in our recent political uproar. Our Politics was heading towards a culmination of the clashes arising out of different political issues and steps taken by the government against BNP.

Both the major political parties were about to reach a point of no return. However, BNP’s yesterday’s programme is indicative of a rather sensible and ahead of its time which many might not have thought of so far our experience is considered.

BNP’s ninety-day ultimatum for restoration of caretaker government has completed with no positive nod from the government’s part. AL is inflexible for caretaker system of government which for BNP only the caretaker is not the issue for their demand. Any interim form of neutral government during the poll is good enough for BNP. They are rather eager for a level playing field for the general election which is very reasonable in our current national politics as we are yet to get hold of a sustainable trustworthy democratic system in politics. For this, a peaceful and dependable atmosphere of power transition is yet to developed in our country. BNP’s raison d`être lies here which no political analyst has denied, yet.

However, as obvious in our politics, with so many issues for BNP, the leader of the 18 parties’ alliance has not called hartal in the country. Otherwise, keeping their more than dozens of top leaders in the lockup, they would have called hartal as our previous experience depicts. The people and the country got respite from the snag of hartal, at least for this time.

Though BNP has not called any hartal which is commendable to the people, but the whole city was besieged due to government’s move to prevent and dissuade people from attending it. It was not the first of its kind. The mass programme of 12 March also marked the same experience causing inexorable woes to the people. To thwart the opposition programme, the very general citizenry of the country had to face enormous miseries throughout the country. But it is proved that such a brand of anti-procession activities did not stand effective for the government.

In democracy, holding of peaceful procession and protest against the government is an established political right which has in many times been overruled by the ruler. Simultaneously, the political parties also caused colossal of desolation for the people over a very trifle reason which was sometimes rather personal of the leaders as well. Such types of political activities are peculiar of ours which are not much in practice in other democracies.

Almost all the political analysts of the country have thought that BNP mighty call hartal to protest the government’s move and slackness in restoration of the caretaker government.

However, the step taken by the BNP has created room for dialogue to resolve the issue on caretaker government or any other issues in our politics. Only the caretaker government is not the issue, there are many other national issues awaiting due attention from our national level.
Counting the BNP’s constructive stance in this crucial juncture, we call upon the political parties to sense the ground reality of our economy and other socio-political affairs before throwing any political activities for us. This peaceful atmosphere and attitude in political firmament should not be kept unattended by the parties. In politics, the scope of dialogue always remains in every occasion whatsoever.
