The unfinished biography of the father of the nation has made us deficient and incomplete as a nation. The memoir of the father of the nation is inseparable with the history of Bangladesh. The nation became cripple following his killing on the 15th August 1975.
All his life was dyed-in-the-wool for the people and the nation. He was always against any unjust and tyranny prevailing in the state.
During the initial stage of the Pakistan regime he resisted the all-pervasive oppression in cultural, educational and other areas of the state of affairs by the then Muslim League. Realizing the fact, he did not take much time to come out of the Muslim League.
Believing in democratic politics, all his political thoughts and agenda was entirely dedicated to people. This was evident in all his political career and personal life as well.
Inspired by his political guru Huseyn Shaheed Suhrawardy, he continued his journey towards a country and people free from oppression and military subjugation.
Sheikh Mujib in his own write up clarified his position on coming out from Muslim League and joining Awami League in 1949 by the leadership of HS Suhrawardy.
To resist against the Muslim League’s stance towards the Bengali Nation, he joined in the then United Front for the purpose of the election on 1954. By the election of 1954, United Front has proved its popularity and people’s favour which Muslim League has ignored since the formation of Pakistan in 1947.
For United Front, it was not difficult to show its back to the legacy of Muslim League.
In 1954, he became elected as a member of the provincial council and national assembly for the first time and became minister twice of the then East Pakistan government. Being so close to the power, he never fell in love of the power, rather to the people and their interest.
12th October of 1958, the government arrested him on the charge of the so-called Security Ordinance. But the government had to free him from all sorts of fabricated and baseless allegations.
This sort of confinement during the Pakistan regime was frequent for him even until the last hour of Pakistan on 26th March 1971. On that very night, the Pakistan military arrested him and took away to Pakistan and put him in jail until towards the fall of the Pakistan regime. But he never submitted to any unjust and unwarranted issues by any authority.
The independence of Bangladesh was achieved through a passage of history. It was not achieved all on a sudden rather by a time-bound systematic democratic movement.
Bangabandhu dreamt a country and has made us to dream for the same.
He was not a leader only as we have today for us. He was a part of the people, from the people and for the people. For this, he never compromised with the power mongers.
Once Bangabandhu said in an interview with David Frost in 1972 to a question, "And when you see them digging a grave and you think of everything you will have to leave behind you, do you think of your country or of your wife and children first?" Banglbandhu replied that he loved his people more. He suffered for his people and he (David Frost) has seen how his people loved him.
Through the killing of Bangabandhu, the terror seized the country and the nation. Violating the constitution, politics of power-play has overshadowed our country. The politics of killing, cue and conspiracy has began to swallow our future. The conspirators took the charge of the country and took the power of the state. The nation became cripple forever.
