DHAKA: Opposition BNP leader Salahuddin Quader Chowdhury, detained on charges of war crimes trial, withdrew his lawyers from ongoing trial proceedings on Wednesday.
The BNP leader made plea to withdraw his lawyers from the trial procedures. The International Crimes Tribunal (ICT)-1 accepted his plea.
Led by three-member ICT Justice ATM Fazle Kabir said the government would appoint a lawyer on Thursday to defend him.
A total of 23 charges were brought against SQ Chowdhury, including killing, genocide, rape, looting, abduction and torture committed during the country’s liberation war in 1971.
On November 14 last year, the prosecution submitted formal charge sheet to the tribunal.
The prosecution submitted the 55-page formal charge sheet along with 1,275-page information and 18 Compact Discs (CD) to the tribunal.
