DHAKA: Communications and Railway Minister Obaidul Quader Thursday said he would not take the responsibility of Jatrabari traffic jam that occurred due to construction work of Mayor Hanif flyover.
The communications minister came up with the assertion while talking to journalists after emerging from a closed door meeting at Railway Bhaban in the city.
He said, “The traffic jam on Jatrabari road occurs due the ongoing construction work of Mayor Hanif flyover.”
Obaidul added: “But, I cannot and will not take the responsibility of the unexpected traffic problem as I have already requested the deputy commissioner to renovate the road.”
The minister said, “I am considering the Eid as a serious challenge as the authority cannot ignore their failure if home-bound people face sufferings while traveling.”
The closed door meeting stared at about 10:30am and continued till 1:30pm. Though journalists were invited to cover the meeting, they were not let to enter the meeting room.
Wishing anonymity, a meeting source said the minister had arguments with the high ups of Dhaka City Corporation over the reeling transportation problems in the city.
Regarding the meeting, Obaidul said, “We basically discussed about our limitations in resolving the traffic crisis during the meeting.”
