MUMBAI: A 70-year-old woman, Chandan Bala, was crushed to death in Mumbai by actor and filmmaker Sohail Khan`s car. The accident happened at around 11 pm last night near St Andrews Church in Bandra.
The actor was not in the car - a Land Cruiser - at the time of the accident. The car was, though, headed to his house at that time.
An autorickshaw driver, who was present at the scene, said the car moved over the woman`s body but didn`t stop. Another eyewitness said he and a constable rushed the woman to Bhabha Hospital.
"But no doctor was attending to her; half an hour was wasted there. They told us to take the woman out of the hospital," he said. She was later declared dead by the hospital.
The police have arrested the driver Dhananjay Pimpale on charges of rash driving and culpable homicide not amounting to murder.
Preliminary investigations suggest he was not drunk at time of the accident.
