DHAKA: Jatiya Party Chairman HM Ershad said considering the current economic, social and political situation of Bangladesh, there is no scope of giving shelter to Rohingya refugees.
“I think the government’s decision and policy regarding the Rohingyas is appropriate,” he said in a written speech.
HM Ershad said, “Huge number of Rohingyas have mixed up with our population and involved with different crimes. They are also going abroad with Bangladeshi passport.”
“They are also conducting various crimes in abroad also and because of them country’s image is being tarnished,” he added.
The former president said, “I have noticed that Rohingyas are trying enter the country because of the religious conflict in the Rakhaine area of Myanmar.”
Indicating United Nations, he said, “Don’t give more pressure to the small country that already has a vast population of 16 crore and if Rohingyas need shelter then there are other neighboring countries of Myanmar.”
He added, “Besides, do something to send back the Rohingyas residing already in our country.”
