Govt reduces sugar price by Tk 5

DHAKA: The government has reduced sugar prices in wholesale and retail markets for keeping the prices affordable among the consumers during Ramadan.

The wholesale prices of sugar have been re-fixed at Tk 50 and retail prices at Tk 55.

Industries Minister Dilip Barua made the disclosure at a press conference at his ministry’s conference room at the secretariat.

The minister said the government would take action against those if anyone sale sugar in high price than the fixed cost. The price would remain effective only during Ramadan.  

Dilip Barua apprised that country’s existing demand of sugar is about 14 to 15 lakh metric tons. Some 17.69 lakh metric tons sugar was imported against the demand in 2011-12 fiscal and 1.27 lakh metric tons in 2012-13 fiscal.
