DHAKA: Opposition BNP acting secretary general of Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir Wednesday urged the government to step down from the power admitting their involvement in Padma Bridge corruption.
Terming the incumbent government ‘failure, incompetent and anti-people’ he also urged them to relieve the people by quitting from power.
The spokesperson for former ruling party came up with the plea while addressing a protest rally held in front of party office in city’s Naya Paltan.
Mirza Fakhrul also urged the government to step down from the power after reinstating the caretaker government system immediately.
“Otherwise under the leadership of Khaleda Zia we along with people will force you to step down and will establish people’s government,” he said.
Terming the government failure in Padma Bridge construction, he added: “World Bank and ADB have cancelled Padma Bridge funding for corruption of Awami League, which also termed the whole nation as thief.”
Regarding the statement given by Finance Minister AMA Muhith in the parliament expressing hatred to WB decision, he said, “His statement supporting corrupts is disgraceful.”
It is Awami League, who is liable for funding cancellation of WB and ADB in the project, he said.
The protest rally was addressed, among others, by BNP standing committee member ASM Hannan Shah, Jamaat assistant secretary general Mojibur Rahman and Amaullah Aman.
