DHAKA: Bangladesh Bank (BB) has withdrawn the new Tk 50 note Wednesday as soon as a spelling mistake of Shilpacharya Zainul Abedin on it was identified.
BB took the decision on Wednesday evening after a news published in the online news portal banglanews24.com identifying the mistake.
Confirming the matter to banglanews, Director-General of BB Governor Secretariat AFM Asaduzzaman said: “These note will not be circulated in the market before rectifying.”
BB Governor Dr Atiur Rahman has expressed regret and asked to look into the negligence in this regard, he added.
Earlier in the day, Bangladesh Bank released three new notes of of Tk 10, 20 and 50 in the market with the image of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
Currency management department sources informed banglanews that some 1.75 crore pieces of Tk 10, 1.55 crore pieces of Tk 20 and 2.25 crore pieces of Tk 50 have already been printed to release in the market.
