DHAKA: A total of 75 foreign nationals and international organizations are coming here on March 25 to join a ceremony a organized to honour them for their outstanding contributions in liberation war in 1971.
A foreign ministry source confirmed the matter to banglanews Saturday.
The government has already become able to contact 110 foreign nationals and organizations out of some 132 enlisted.
Foreign Minister Dipu Moni said, “Some 21 recipients and 54 representatives are joining the programme.”
It was not possible to invite all 132 people due to lack of proper address and many of them died, she added.
President M Zillur Rahman and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will distribute medals, crests and citations among the distinguished awardees at south plaza of parliament on March 27.
The first such award was conferred posthumously on former Indian Premier Indira Gandhi on July 24 last year. Sonia Gandhi, president of Indian Congress, had received the award on behalf of her mother-in-law.
The nominated Statesmen will be awarded with ‘Bangladesh Liberation War Honour’ and others would get ‘Bangladesh Liberation War Friendship Honour’.
The government decided in a cabinet meeting on December 13 in 2010 to honour some foreign nationals and organizations on the occasion of the upcoming 40th Victory Day.
