COX’S BAZAR: Some 39 out of 55 Bangladeshi businessmen returned home who were entrapped in Mongdu City of Myanmar following a riot between Buddhist Rakhain and Muslim Rohingya.
They arrived at Teknaf land port of Cox’s Bazar at 3:00pm starting journey on Sunday noon.
Emigration in-charge of Teknaf landport Quader Siddiqui said, “Some 39 businessmen arrived here as the situation of Myanmar became a little bit normal.”
“We are discussing about the rest of the 16 business. We hope that they will return home soon,” he said.
Earlier, at least 55 Bangladeshi businessmen were entrapped in Mongdu City of Myanmar following a riot between Buddhist Rakhain and Muslim Rohingya.
Sources could not confirm whether they are under NASAKA force’s custody.
The trapped went Myanmar for business purpose but the riot among the Buddhist Rakhain, Muslim Rohingya and law enforcement agency turned violence in the city on Friday and Saturday, Myanmar sources said.
Administration imposed curfew in the city which halted all types of transits between Bangladesh and Myanmar.
Immigration officer Abdul Kader told banglanews, the high authorities have been informed about the matter.
He also said water transport clogged as NASAKA blockaded the naval route. We are trying to do the best to salvage them as soon as possible.
Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) 42 Battalion commander Lieutenant Colonel Jahid told banglanews that BGB surveillance and patrol increased at Teknaf frontier that area after the riot.
