British soldier shot dead in Afghanistan

DHAKA: Britain’s military says a UK soldier has been shot dead by insurgents in southern Afghanistan.

The Ministry of Defence says the soldier from 1st Battalion, the Royal Welsh was killed by small weapon Friday during a foot patrol in the Nahr-e Saraj district of Helmand province.

The soldier’s name was not released. Officials say his family has been informed, report agencies.

The death brings the number of British troops to die in Afghanistan since 2001 to 416.
