Tk 306.20cr DU budget announced

DHAKA: Dhaka University authorities Wednesday announced its Tk 306.20 crore budget for fiscal year 2012-13.

DU Treasurer Professor M Kamal Uddin placed the budget at the annual Senate meeting held at Nabab Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate Bhaban with Vice-Chancellor Professor AAMS Arefin Siddique in the chair.

The treasurer also presented Tk 286.68 crore revised budget for the fiscal year of 2011-12.

Of the total budget, 80.87 percent would be spent as salary and allowances for teachers, staff and employees, said the treasurer.

The University Grants Commission (UGC) will provide Tk 237.40 crore while Tk 32 crore will come from its own sources.

There is a Tk 36.80 crore deficit in the proposed budget, the treasurer informed the senate.

During placing budget, Professor Kamal hoped that the UGC would allocate more funds for smooth running of the university.

“All should contribute to their best level in making Dhaka University as one of the best institutions of the world,” said Vice-Chancellor Professor Arefin Siddique in his welcome address.
