DHAKA: Like in other parts of the globe, World Breastfeeding Week-2012 has begun in the country on Wednesday through different programmes.
The programme of the week inaugurated at Osmani Memorial Auditorium in the city at about 11am.
This year`s theme highlights global efforts to protect, promote and support breastfeeding through implementation of the Global Strategy for Infant and Young Child Feeding, adopted by the World Health Assembly and the UNICEF Executive Board in 2002.
Different government and non government organizations have chalked out various programmes to observe the week.
Health Minister Ruhal Haque placed different sides of the week at a press conference on Tuesday noon at his secretariat office.
He said, “Powdered milk is dangerous for kids that may cause the disease or death.”
The minister urged guardians for not attract in seeing the advertisements on baby foods and aware about children`s health.
The government has upgraded maternity leave period to six months from four months. Breast feeding corner has been set up in government and non-government offices.
