DHAKA: The authority of Biman Bangladesh Airlines is not paying any attention to the allegation of irregularities in recruiting General Sales Agent (GSA) in Oman brought by parliamentary standing committee on Civil Aviation and Tourism Ministry.
The national flag carrier also does not agree to accept the specific recommendations of parliamentary probe committee.
It is also showing reluctance on the charges against the incumbent GSA Oman Travel Bureau for misappropriating money lifted by Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) Office.
Sources said Biman authority is taking initiative to send letter to the control office rejecting the allegation.
Related documents were placed in the meeting of by the parliamentary standing committee on Civil Aviation and Tourism Ministry Sunday.
The parliamentary committee also decided to summon Biman Bangladesh Airlines Chairman Air Marshal (retd) Jamal Uddin Ahmed at the meeting.
The parliamentary standing committee member Mayeen Uddin Khan Badol told banglanews, “The attitude of Biman seems that they are not accountable to anyone.”
The JS body has found irregularity in recruiting GSA in Oman. But they are refuting the allegation, he said.
Sources said an advertisement was published in Oman’s local newspaper for recruitment GSA in April of the last year.
The 10 applications, dropped against the advertisement’ were sent to Dhaka. Messrs Oman Travel Bureau, working as GSA for 32 years, also submitted application.
Biman’s selection committee was made a short-list of five applications. Biman’s board committee on manufacturing and selling suggested for signing deal with Oman Travel Bureau for more three years after checking the list on May 3 in the last year.
The committee has submitted an investigation report to the parliamentary standing committee in this regard.
The committee alleged that the irregularity was taken place in leasing airplane of Air Atlanta and appointment of GSA in Oman.
On September 25 in 2011, a sub-committee was formed to investigate the matter.
