DHAKA: An Evening of Modern Songs by Mrs Shakila Zafar at city’s Indira Gandhi Cultural Centre will be held at 6:30 PM on July 13.
Indira Gandhi Culture Centre, High Commission of India, Dhaka in association with the State Bank of India in Bangladesh, is organizing the Evening.
Shakila Zafar is one of Bangladesh’s most prominent exponents of songs of contemporary and traditional genre. Born in Karachi, her musical career commenced as a Classical Vocal Music artiste.
Subsequently, she gained popularity through her appearance in a BTV organised programme “Jodi Kichu Mone Na Koren” in 1983.
Since then, Shakila Zafar has been entertaining the global audience through exquisite renditions of Modern songs for the last 30 years.
Shakila Zafar’s first Guru was Ustad Yasin Khan after which she trained under Late Pandit Mithun Dey and Girija Devi. Pandit Sanjeeb Dey is Shakila’s present Guru in classical music.
A versatile singer with hundreds of cinema play back, stage shows and albums to her credit, Shakila’s mastery over classical based tunes is vivid in her expositions of songs of all genres. Shakila has performed in major festivals as also in solo concerts across all continents.
She had released her first solo Rabindra Sangeet album entitled “Labonye Purno Pran”, featuring 10 songs that received tremendous accolades from the music lovers of Bangladesh last year.
