DHAKA: Finance Minister Abul Maal Abdul Muhith on Thursday evening said the probe report on share-market scam identified some individuals and financial institutions as the main players behind the recent stock- market crash.
The finance minister, however, said the names of the persons could not be disclosed before further investigation.
The banglanews correspondent through an investigation found out 18 persons and two merchant banks named in the investigation report submitted to the ministry of finance on Thursday.
A confidential source, based on the probe report, told banglanews that apart from these twenty, some more manipulators might have been involved in the share scam.
Among the names mentioned in the probe report are incumbent chairman of the Securities and Exchange Commission Khandoker Ziaul Huq, two executive directors- Anwarul Karim Bhuiyan and Tarequzzaman- and former executive director Mansurul Alam, Salman F Rahman of Beximco Group, BNP politician Mosaddek Ali Falu, Lutfor Rahman Badol and his wife Soma Alam Rahman, KPCL of the brother of commerce minister Faruq Khan, BCB chairman and chairman of the parliamentary standing committee on the ministry of finance AHM Mostafa Kamal MP, ICB deputy managing director Kafir Uddin Ahmed Chowdhury and his wife Farzana Akhter and brother- in- law Masur Billah, former president of DSE Rakibur Rahman and his nephew Arifur Rahman, stock-market investors Golam Mostafa, Abu Sadat Mohammad Sayem and Yakub Ali Khandaker and two merchant banks- Race and LR Global.
It is specially mentioned in the report that the SEC chairman and the executive directors were ``directly involved in the manipulation of the capital market`` that led to the crash.
The probe body has recommended their removal from the SEC through recasting the ineffective watchdog agency.
The committee believes more investigation into Mansur Alam’s involvement might make a way to get more names of big shots who were involved in the stock-market scandal.
``There are specific evidences of involvement of Mosaddek Ali Falu, Lutfor Rahman Badol and his wife Soma Islam in the scam,`` the report says.
ICB deputy managing director Kafir Uddin has fixed- deposited most of the money minted from the stock market.
