DHAKA: A total of 611 jawans of 13 Border Guard Battalion (BGB) were sentenced to different terms of rigorous imprisonment between four months and seven years for their involvement in the BDR mutiny at Pilkhana Headquarters.
Apart from this, each of the convicts was fined Tk 100.
A special court led by Brigadier General Abu Sayeed Khan also acquitted 10 other accused from the case as the charges brought against them were not proved.
Of the convicts, 55 BGB men were jailed for seven years, 10 for six years and six months, 41 for six years, three for five years and six months, 66 for five years, one for four years and six months, 73 for four years, 21 for three years and six months, 127 for three years, 29 for two years and six months, 114 for two years, 12 for one year and six months, 28 for one year, 18 for six months and 13 for four months.
A total of 74 people, including 57 army officers in command of the border-security force, were killed in the bloody mutiny at Pilkhana during the February 25-26, 2009 mayhem that had also triggered revolt in other garrisons across the country.
