Co-pilot at hospital, passengers escape unhurt

DHAKA:  A flight of United Airways, the country`s largest leading private airline, faced serious accident but passengers escaped unhurt.

But co-pilot of the flight sustained serious injuries and was admitted to Apollo Hospital.
 
The Dhaka-bound flight coming from Jessore faced the accident on Monday. But, Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh was not informed about the incident.

As Banglanews investigation, a United Airways ATR-72-200, registration S2-AFE performing flight 4H-546 from Jessore to Dhaka, received a cabin pressure when it had reached near Shahjalal International Airport.

The co-pilot received an eye injury as the right hand windshield blew out and all loose items were sucked out of the cockpit.

Despite the damage, the pilots managed to keep the flight conditions stable and continued the flight to Dhaka where a safe landing was made.

When contacted, a pilot of Biman Bangladesh Airline and an engineer told banglanews that the accident took place due to problems in pressurization system of the plane. If the pilot’s side windshield blew out, the pilot would not have controlled the flight.
