Sarod recital by Prattyush Banerjee

DHAKA: Noted Indian sarod artiste Prattyush Banerjee will perform in Dhaka on June 8.

To jointly be organised by Indira Gandhi Culture Centre of Indian high commission and State Bank of India, the recital will be held at 6:30pm on the day.

Born in Kolkata in 1969, Prattyush is honoured as an outstanding performer, music composer, researcher and instrument designer in India.

According to the organisers, the artiste has created sarod’s electronic version named ‘Jyotidhwani’.

He is also considered as a torchbearer of the Senia-Shahjahanpur gharana of sarod made by the great Ustads like Abdullah Khan, Md Ameer Khan and Sangeetacharya Radhika Mohan Maitra.

Prattyush learnt the art of ‘sarode’ recitations at the age of eight from his father, Prasun Kumar Banerjee, a well-known connoisseur and a patron of music.

Later, Prattyush learnt under Pandit Samarendra Sikdar, an eminent disciple of Radhika Mohan.

For thirty years, he has been learning under the eminent maestro, Acharya Buddhadev Das Gupta, who received Padmabhushan.

Prattyush has earned fame by playing the complex tappa style of singing on the sarod.

The entry will be open to all.
