DHAKA: Ruling Awami League Advisory Council member, also minister without portfolio, Suranjit Sengupta MP Sunday opined that the World Bank’s decision not to finance Padma Bridge Project has become positive for the country.
“The curse has turned into blessings for us as it jerked and awakened Awami League as well as the countrymen to be united again,” he said.
The senior parliamentarian came up with the observation while addressing a discussion held at the National Museum in the city.
Suranjit Sengupta said, “The Padma Bridge funding problem will be solved politically and it is possible to construct the bridge with our own funding.”
He added: “We should start the construction of the bridge with the own financing and the door will remain open for World Bank funding if they wish.”
The discussion meeting was addressed, among others, by Awami League Advisory Council member Amir Hossain Amu, Hemayet Uddin Birbikram and Director of Janata Bank Balaram Poddar.
