DHAKA UNIVERSITY: Blue panel, backed by the ruling Awami League and its left allies, won in seven out of 10 faculties while their BNP-Jamaat-backed white-panel rivals took three faculties in the Deans election Wednesday.
The winners from the blue panel are Yusuf Ali Mollah for Science, Shibley Rubaiatul Islam for Business Studies, Dr Farid Uddin Ahmed for Social Science, Dr Mohammad Emdadul Haque for Biological Sciences, Syed Abul Barak Alvi for Fine Arts, Dr ASM Maksud Kamal for Earth and Environmental Sciences and Dr Mohammad Sekul Islam for Engineering and Technology.
Besides, elected from the White panel are Dr Sadrul Amin for the Faculty of Arts, Dr Taslima Mansur for Law and M Saiful Islam for Pharmacy.
Polling started at 10:00am and continued till 2:00pm, without break, at Nabab Nowab Ali Chowdhury Senate Bhaban.
Dr Kamal Uddin, Election Commissioner and also Treasurer of the university, declared the poll results at 3:30pm after counting the votes.
Among 1,552 voters, some 1,094 cast their vote in the election.
