COX’S BAZAR: The investigation committee, formed by the main opposition BNP to look into the recent unrest at Ramu, Friday said the inaction of police sparked the violence.

The probe body is thinking that is was a pre-planned attack.

The eight-member investigation committee led by its convener Barrister Moudud Ahmed made the assertion after visiting Ramu in the morning.

The other members of the committee are Dr Abdul Moyeen Khan, Vice-chairman Abdullah Al Noman, advisor to Khaleda Zia Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury, joint secretary general Salauddin Ahmed, organizing secretary Golam Akbar Khandaker, Advocate Gautom Chakraborty and Dr Sukomal Barua.

The probe committee members visited destroyed Shima Buddha Bihar, Lal Ching, Sada Ching, Boro Kang, Sree Kul Maitri Buddha Bihar, Bimukti Bidarshan Bhabna Kendra and the houses in Ramu upazila.

During the visit, they talked with the affected people, Ramu upazila chairman, AL leader Sohel Sarwar Kajol and other representatives of the area.

Local MP Lutfor Rahman Kajol, leaders of BNP, Jubo Dal and Chhtra Dal accompanied them during the visit.

Earlier on September 29, at least seven Buddhist temples, 30 houses and shops in the area were burnt as a mob went on a rampage following a Facebook post allegedly defaming the Quran.
