Hartal observed in Kamrangirchar

DHAKA: A dawn-to-dusk hartal, called by the opposition BNP’s Kamrangirchar Thana unit, was observed across the Thana Saturday.

Police held three pickets from Borogram Ward area at around 10:30am during the hartal hours.

Kamrangirchar Thana ASI Galib confirmed this to banglanews.

Witnesses said police barred a procession brought out by hartal supporters led by Borogram Ward Jubo Dal president Sohel. Later, Awami League activists attacked the BNP activists.
 
Officer-in-Charge of Kamrangirchar Thana AKM Nasir Ullah said that additional police forces were deployed to avert any untoward situation during the hartal hours.

Kamrangirchar Thana BNP called the hartal in protest against the arrest of 12 leaders and activists of the party.

Central and city BNP also supported the hartal.

Police arrested the leaders Friday when they were going to a picnic, party sources said.
