DHAKA: Opposition BNP-led 18-party four lawmakers, including MK Anwar and Mahbub Uddin Khokon, were released from central jail on a High Court bail Monday.
Two others leaders are LDP Chairman Colonel (retd) Oli Ahmed and Jatiya Party Chairman Barrister Andalib Rahman Partha and Shahid Uddin Chowdhury Anne.
Besides, BNP lawmaker Shahid Uddin Chowdhury Anne was shown-arrest in another case with Dhanmondi Thana.
MK Anwar and Barrister Mahbub Uddin Khokon were released from the Dhaka Central Jail in the evening and Oli Ahmed and Andalib Rahman Partha from Kashimpur jail at 7:45pm.
The High Court on Sunday granted bail for six weeks to the five lawmakers in a vehicle torching case in front of PM’s office during hartal.
An HC bench comprising of Justice Salma Masud Chowdhury and Justice FRM Nazmul Ahsan issued the bail in response to separate bail petitions filed by the detained 33 leaders of 18-party alliance.
On May 23, a Dhaka Court rejected the bail plea of 33 opposition leaders, including BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir in cocktail explosion, vehicle vandalism and arson cases for the second time.
On May 16, a Dhaka Court asked the authorities concerned to send 33 leaders of BNP-led 18-party, including BNP acting secretary general Fakhrul Islam Alamgir to jail after rejecting their bail prayers.
Some 33 leaders of BNP-led 18-party alliance surrendered before the CMM Court and sought bail in a case filed for torching vehicle in front of PM’s office during hartal.
On April 30, BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir among a number of alliance leaders were sued for their alleged involvement in cocktail explosion at secretariat, vehicle vandalism and arson in PM office area during Sunday’s dawn-to-dusk hartal.
Police filed two cases with Tejgaon and Shahbagh Thanas. Fakhrul was made accused in the both cases.
On May 10, DB police submitted charge sheet against 45 leaders and activists of BNP-led 18-party alliance including party’s acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir in a case of torching vehicle in front of PMO.
