BOGRA: The authorities Thursday declared Bogra Polytechnic Institute closed until May 28 following a clash between students and police personnel.
Golam Mostofa, Principal of the institute, came up with the decision from a meeting held between district administration and student-teachers of the institute at around 2:00pm.
Earlier, some 20 police including Kotwali Thana officer-in-charge (OC) were injured in the clash.
Police also held 15 students from both institutions, banglanews correspondent .
Agitated students blockaded Dhaka-Bogra highway at around 10:15am protesting the decision has been taken for the diploma engineer’s status ‘a third class instead of second class’.
Meanwhile, they vandalized some 15 to 20 vehicles.
At one stage, students locked into a clash with police as the police personnel hindered their unruly activities.
Police tossed 20-25 tear-shells and in retaliation, students hurled five cocktail bombs.
