Main Eid jamaat held at 8:30am amid rain

DHAKA: The main jamaat of Eid-ul-Fitr festival in the city was held at the National Eidgah on the High Court premises at 8:30am on Monady.

The religious congregation began at about 8:30am and continued till 8:45am.

Some 125,000 Muslims offered the Eid prayers at the national congregation.

President Zillur Rahman, Cabinet Members, MPs, the Chief Justice and Justices of the Supreme Court, political leaders, diplomats from different countries in Bangladesh and high officials of the government joined the gathering at the National Eidgah.

Later, the president left the place at about 8:50am after offering his Eid prayer.

Suffecient security measures were taken at National Eidgah during the prayer, sources said.

The arrangement for Eid congregation for women was made with separate entrance. Besides, sperate places were reserved for foreign ambassedors and diplomats to offer Eid prayer.

According to source, some 400 tube lights and fans were set up in the Eidgah premises.

Dhaka Metropolitan Police was given the responsibility of maintaining security of the Eidgah, sources said.

Besides, Dhaka WASA supplied sufficient water for ablution (odu) of the devotees.
