RAJSHAHI: Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) personnel and police in a joint drive on early Thursday held Bagha municipal mayor in a case filed against him for threatening and taking extortion from local MPs.
The detainee was identified as Akkas Ali, Bagha municipal mayor and Awami League leader.
Bagha Thana OC Ali Ahmed Hashmi told banglanews Akkas Ali went to Rajshahi-6 MP Alhaz Shahriar Alam’s house and rebuked him on Wednesday evening. He also demanded Tk 1 lakh from Shahriar Alam.
Union Juba League general secretary Kamruzzaman Nipon filed a case against Akkas Ali in this connection.
“A team of RAB-5 and Bagha Thana police raided Akkas Ali’s residence in Kaligram area and held him around 4am,” said the OC.
Later, he was sent to the court around 9am on Thursday.
