DHAKA: The 2nd anniversary of of Nimtoli tragedy in which 124 people burnt to death in a devastating fire fed on chemicals is being marked Sunday.
A special Doa Mahfil organized by the locals will be take place at the ‘Nimtoli Memorial’ premises in city’s Boro Katra area after the Johor prayer Sunday. Local lawmaker Dr. Mostafa Jalal Mahiuddin is set to attend the gathering.
Meanwhile, another Doa Mahfil organized by Nimtoli Juba Sangathan will be held after the Esa prayer.
On June 3, 2010, a total of 124 people burnt to death and more than 150 sustained severe burn injuries in a devastating fire in Old Dhaka’s densely populated Nimtoli area where family homes and factories mushroomed into a veritable concrete jungle.
Immediate notion was that an electrical transformer blast caused the fire, but subsequent findings showed that the blaze spread to dwelling houses and shops at a terrible speed that can only be created by highly combustible chemicals.
