DHAKA: Millions of children were fed with vitamin ‘A’ capsules or anti-worm tablets across the country for their healthy growth, immune from child diseases.
The National Vitamin ‘A’ Plus Campaign-2012 was held across the country for enhancing the growth and immune system of the children.
This time, vitamin ‘A’ capsules were administered to the children aged between one and five years while de-worming tablets to the children aged two to five years at all immunization centres across the country from 8:00am to 4:00pm.
Public Health Nutrition Institute conducted the campaign under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare to reduce risk of child mortality and prevent night blindness of the children due to Vitamin ‘A’ deficiency.
Children aged six months to 11 months were fed blue-colored capsule of high-powered Vitamin A, children aged 1-year to 5-year red-colored capsule of high-powered Vitamin A and children aged 2-5 years were fed de-worming tablets.
Over four lakh health workers and volunteers worked together to make the nationwide campaign a success.
Under the program, 2.20 crore children aged six months to five years was given lifesaving vitamin A capsules while over 1.90 crore children aged two to five years were fed anti-worm tablets, according to an official estimate.
